EASTON, Pa. – The Lehigh men's cross country team finished second at the 2013 Patriot League Championships, just two points behind first-place Navy. Senior Tyler Mueller captured the individual crown to be named Patriot League Runner of the Year and become the first Lehigh runner to ever accomplish the feat. The Mountain Hawks have finished in the top three of the league for three straight years.
"Tyler kept his composure very well," said head coach Todd Etters. "He was able to beat out the second place runner because he threw in a couple really hard strides with about 100 meters to go. The other guys really stepped up and I'm very proud of how they ran their best today."

Mueller raced his way to first place with a time of 24:22.03, six seconds faster than Boston University's Rich Peters who came in second place. Junior Ryan Mahalsky was right behind in third place with a time of 24:58.08 to be named first team All-Patriot League.
"It feels awesome," said the Pottstown, Pa. native Mueller. "I wasn't sure I could do it with about 400 meters to go, but there was so much great support and so many Lehigh people here. I just put my head down and pumped my arms and finally felt like I was pulling away. I've been training my entire college career for this."
Navy captured the team title with 61 points, followed by the Mountain Hawks with 63. American was close behind in third place with 66 points and Army in fourth with 72. Boston University (112), Bucknell (143), Holy Cross (230), Colgate (249), Loyola (279) and Lafayette (283) rounded out the field of competitive runners.
Mountain Hawk junior Casey Gilboy finished 15th with a time of 25:47.76 and narrowly missed being named second team All-Patriot League. Sophomore Evan Hardy followed in 18th place with a time of 25:53.49. Freshman Alex Fitzgerald impressed in his first championship race, finishing with a time of 26:12.49 to claim 26th place. Senior Ryan Knouse (26:41.65) and junior Simon Voorhees (26:42.79) placed 39th and 40th, respectively.
The Mountain Hawks will now gear up to host the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Qualifier race on Nov. 15. The regional race will be held on the Goodman Campus Cross Country Course. More information on the race can be found here.
