2014 Lehigh Football Schedule | Lehigh Football Tickets | 150th Lehigh-Lafayette Game
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Five home games at Goodman Stadium and the 150th meeting between Lehigh and Lafayette at Yankee Stadium highlight the 2014 Lehigh football schedule announced Monday. The 11 game schedule begins with back-to-back games against powers from the Colonial Athletic Association and concludes with the historic 150th meeting of college football's most-played rivalry on November 22.
With Monday's schedule announcement, 2014 Lehigh football season tickets will go on sale on Friday, November 1. Season ticket renewals were sent out to current season ticket holders last week. Season ticket holders will be provided with a promotional code to purchase tickets to the Lafayette game earlier than the general public, with access to some of the best seating locations.
For $85, fans receive a chairback reserved seat to all five home games, while for $75 fans can purchase reserved bench season tickets. General admission bench season tickets cost $60.
The Mountain Hawks will open the 2014 season at Goodman Stadium against James Madison on Saturday September 6. Lehigh and James Madison have met just once previously, with the Dukes edging the Mountain Hawks 14-13 in the opening round of the 2004 playoffs, as James Madison went on to win the Division I-AA national championship.
Lehigh will then take to the road for two straight games, visiting New Hampshire on September 13 and Yale September 20. The Mountain Hawks will visit Durham, N.H. for the first time since 2010 after defeating the Wildcats back on September 28 for their first win over UNH since 1982. Lehigh and Yale will meet for the first time since 2011 and will battle at the Yale Bowl for the first time since 2007.
"The 2014 schedule will be very challenging," explained Lehigh head coach Andy Coen. "We are very excited to have the opportunity to get two CAA teams on the schedule. That's something in the early part of my career we had here and obviously we've had some success at that level and we want to continue to play those types of teams as we go through the schedule each year. On top of that we add Yale a team that continues to grow."
The Mountain Hawks will return home to host Monmouth on September 27. Following a bye week, Lehigh will open up Patriot League play at home against the Bucknell Bison on October 11.
On October 18, Lehigh will travel to Cornell for its final non-league game, the Mountain Hawks' first visit to Ithaca since 2001.
Lehigh's final five games will be league matchups, beginning with a home date against Fordham on October 25. The Rams will be eligible for the Patriot League championship in 2014 after being ineligible for the league title the last four seasons. The Mountain Hawks will then hit the road for league games at Georgetown (November 1) and Holy Cross (November 8) before returning home for their final home game against Colgate on November 15, a contest which seems to have Patriot League title implications on an annual basis.
"With the early bye we will wind up playing the five straight league games at the end of the year," Coen said. "I think it's laid out to be a very challenging schedule for our team, and we are probably going to be a young football team again next year as you look at our roster right now."
The regular season concludes with the 150th Lehigh-Lafayette game November 22 at Yankee Stadium. Lehigh has worked with Lafayette and the New York Yankees to create a number of affordable options for all fans to attend this historic game. A large demand is expected for this historic event and all Lehigh friends and family are encouraged to attend.
"It's incredibly exciting to be playing the 150th Lehigh-Lafayette game at Yankee Stadium," Coen said. "There are always expectations to that game really right from the beginning of the season. It's really an event, not necessarily just a game. It'll be certainly very special playing the game in Yankee Stadium and everything that will go on around that game. It will be exciting for the students, the fans and the players on both teams. It's going to be an exciting year, without a doubt."
Tickets start at $35 for Lehigh students and end zone/300 level seating. Seating in the 100/200 levels will cost $50 while premium level seating will cost $75.
The Lehigh-Lafayette game is being played at a neutral site for just the second time, and the first since 1891. Lafayette will be the designated home team. Tickets purchased through Lafayette will be on the first base/right field side of Yankee Stadium. Tickets purchased through Lehigh will be on the third base/left field side of the stadium. Tickets will also be available directly through the Yankees, sprinkled in both Lehigh and Lafayette sections. Please note that fees may be higher if purchased through The New York Yankees/Ticketmaster compared to those purchased through Lehigh.
Tickets purchased through Lehigh may be done online at LehighTickets.com, by calling 610-7LU-GAME (758-4263), or in person at the Stabler Arena Box Office.
