Men’s soccer announces 2016 recruiting class

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh men's soccer head coach Dean Koski announced the Class of 2016 on Tuesday. After losing eight to graduation, the Mountain Hawks will welcome ten incoming student-athletes, five from different states and one from Spain.
"The recruiting process, albeit never ending and vitally important, remains one of the more enjoyable aspects of our jobs," Koski said. "Traveling around the country to tournaments and club events, watching hundreds of great matches and evaluating prospects to figure out if they are the right fit for your program and university is fundamental to the success of our program".
Here are the newest additions to the men's soccer program:
Ryan Bertrando - Lititz, Pa. - Warwick HS - PA Classics - Midfield
Smart, ball winning midfielder with a fantastic engine and ability to cover the field…captained Warwick HS in both his junior and senior years…also a three-year captain for the PA Classics of the US Soccer Development Academy…named to the Pennsylvania HS All-State team as a senior…has also played for the Philadelphia Union (MLS) Academy team with current Mountain Hawk freshman Michael Gonzalez…will enroll in Lehigh's IBE program.
Dilan Casanovas Mack - Barcelona, Spain - Loomis Chaffee School (Conn.) - Banyoles CD - Forward
Dynamic forward who will compete for playing time…named captain at Loomis Chaffee for his senior season…was the team's leading scorer in both his junior and senior seasons at Loomis…as a junior, had 18 goals in 18 games…led team in assists as a senior…named a WNEPSSA Senior All-Star…scored his team's only goal in preseason match against FC Barcelona's youth side…attended Lehigh Soccer's one day ID clinic last spring…attended the Lehigh Soccer Academy in July…will enroll in the business school.
Kyle Chin - Irvine, Calif. - Mater Dei HS - Pateadores - Forward/Midfield
Left sided attacking player that has the ability to play multiple positions for the Mountain Hawks…plays for Pateadores in the US Soccer Development Academy…enrolling alongside club teammate Brian Vail…prior to joining Pateadores, he played club ball with Slammers FC…Slammers won the 2010 US Youth Soccer National Championships…scored the only goal in 1-0 victory in the 2010 National Final…will study business.
Benjamin Davis - Princeton, N.J. - Princeton High School - Defender

Named captain for his senior season and this past fall, Davis was named first team All-Conference, All Region and All State ... named to New Jersey's Top 45 All-State team by the Soccer Coaches Association of New Jersey ... named to the All-Conference, All Region, and All State teams after his junior season as well ... led high school to County Championship in 2009 and 2011 as well as the NJ State Championship in 2009 ...Davis attended the 2011 Lehigh ID Academy where he was the recipient of the camp's Leadership Award.
William Grace - Crofton, Md. - Archbishop Spalding HS - MD Rush Nike - Forward/MidfieldQuick, technical player who can play a variety of roles…Four year varsity starter at Archbishop Spalding…named first team All-County as a senior…plays club soccer for MD Rush Nike…club team was a Maryland State Cup Finalist in 2011…attended one of Lehigh Soccer's one day ID clinics last spring…attended the Lehigh Soccer Academy last summer…will major in mechanical engineering.
Jamie Luchini - Wexford, Pa. - North Allegheny HS - Beadling SC - Forward/Midfield
Good athlete with technical ability and great size…Three year varsity starter for North Allegheny HS…captained team in his senior year…as a senior, led team in goals and assists...named ALL-WPIAL as senior…plays club soccer for Beadling 94/95...has won four straight Pa. West state championships and competed in National Championships in 2011…attended the Lehigh University ID Academy Camp last summer…will study Business at Lehigh
Everett McCord - Raleigh, N.C. - Broughton HS - CASL Chelsea FC Academy - Goalkeeper
Long and talented goalkeeper that will add immediate depth and competition to the goalkeeper position…named captain of Broughton HS for his senior year…honored as an All-Conference and All-Region selection as a senior…started 14 games for CASL Chelsea FC Academy in 2010-2011 US Development Academy season…helped guide CASL to the Academy National Finals Week in 2011…Prior to joining Academy, led the North Carolina ODP team to a Region III Championship as the starting goalkeeper…attended one Day ID Clinic at Lehigh last spring…intending to study Engineering at Lehigh.
Michael Manta - Downingtown, Pa. - Malvern Prep - Penn Fusion 93 Celtic - Defender
Big defender who will compete for playing time as a centerback…named captain of Malvern Prep as a senior…in final HS season was named All Southeast Pa. second team, All Inter-AC second team and All Main-Line first team…led Malvern Prep to Inter-AC league championship for first time in 10 years as a senior…plays club ball for nationally ranked Penn Fusion Celtic…team is three-time Region 1 Champions and was a National Championship Finalist in 2011…will study Engineering.
Shane Mulcahy - Mendham, N.J. - Delbarton School - PDA Academy - Midfield
Skilled player with the versatility to play in midfield or in defense…played for one of top HS teams in New Jersey at Delbarton…won 2011 NJ Non-Public A Northern State Champions and State Finalists in 2011…Non-Public A Northern State Finalist in 2010…joined US Academy team PDA in 2011…prior to joining PDA played in the Academy system for NJSA 04…attended one day ID Clinic at Lehigh last May…enrolling in the Engineering college.
Brian Vail - Laguna Beach, Calif. - St. Margaret's Episcopal School - Pateadores - Midfield
Tough, ball winning midfielder with good technical ability…earned all-League honors after each season playing for St. Margaret's…club teammate of fellow newcomer Kyle Chin…plays for Pateadores in the US Soccer Development Academy…prior to joining Pateadores played club soccer for Slammers FC…led Slammers FC to the 2010 USYSA National Championship…part of the California ODP program that were national finalists in January 2011…enrolling in the business school.
"Associate Head Coach Mike Benn, assistant Coach Ryan Hess and I spent a great deal of time attending soccer tournaments around the country to identify the incoming class and we are very excited about this unique group," Koski said. "This is one of our more geographically diverse classes with this class representing five states (Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland, North Carolina and California), and one country (Spain).
"We are not only delighted in the quality of this group of incoming freshmen as students and athletes, we could not be happier in the character and personality of these young men," Koski continued. "They all come from great families who have placed great value on education, personal growth and helping their sons find the right fit for the college experience and Lehigh is the beneficiaries of their commitment. On behalf of the university, the team and our alumni, we want to welcome these student-athletes and their families to the Lehigh Soccer Family!"
