Lehigh wraps up successful spring campaign

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Lehigh field hockey team recently wrapped up a strong spring season, continuing hard at work for the 2012 campaign. The Mountain Hawks hosted two tournaments and their annual Alumni Game while also traveling to Lafayette. With significant talent and experience returning, Lehigh looks to continue building off last season's third-place finish and Patriot League Tournament berth.
“This spring was great,” said Lehigh head coach Stacey Blue. “We focused on fitness, scoring and a passing game. We were able to improve transitioning from defense to offense much quicker. We were also much more offensive this spring.”
The Mountain Hawks played home tournaments on March 31 and April 11 - with a tilt at Lafayette sprinkled in between - before hosting their Alumni Game on April 21.
Coach Blue saw numerous improvements as the spring progressed.
“We improved with each tournament and took it one day at a time,” she said. “We left this spring on a great note. Now, everyone knows exactly what to work on this summer.
“Many people stepped up this spring, which is exciting,” Blue continued. “As a whole, this team really worked together on a number of things to improve themselves. I'm very proud of each of them.”
The Mountain Hawks return all four of their All-Patriot League honorees in the fall, led by First Teamers Kim Eng and Sierra Segear, who was also the league's Goalkeeper of the Year. Eng tallied a team-high 10 goals and 24 points while Segear led the league in both saves (202) and save percentage (77.4). Meanwhile, rising junior Marie Mignogna and rising sophomore Steph Fratoni were both named to the Second Team.
“We have very high hopes for the fall season,” said Blue. “The upperclassmen have great experience, talent and have all been working on setting and achieving higher standards. With the addition of our incoming freshmen, we have such potential for a great year.”
