Lehigh shines at pair of meets over the weekend

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh men's track and field team had a successful weekend at a pair of unscored meets. At the Bucknell Outdoor Classic, the Mountain Hawks had three event winners while four qualified for IC4As. At the Pollard Invitational at Moravian, Lehigh had some standout performances highlighted by the 4x100m relay team that set the meet record.
The team of Ifeanyi Edochie, Justin Mahoney, Martin Otieno and Devin Monroe won the 4x100m relay with a time of 42.03 to set the meet record.
Lehigh also had an impressive finish in the 800m run as the Mountain Hawks took the top five spots. Daniel Paez won the event with a time of 1:55.25, just beating out teammate Kenneth Wilkinson who was second with a time of 1:55.59. Mitchell Biler took third (1:56.05), Gregory Caldwell was fourth (1:56.27) and Christopher Watson was fifth (1:56.45).
Christopher Buck won the shot put event with a distance of 14.87m while Ryan Rhodes finished second (14.56m) and Zachary Nardone placed fourth (13.41m). Buck also finished third in the hammer throw with a distance of 51.06m.
Ricky Okoye finished first in the discus throw with a distance of 46.33m, just ahead of teammate Benjamin Sourbeer who was second with a distance of 45.35m. Benjamin Beauchamp placed third in the event with a distance of 43.83.
Lehigh's fifth first-place finish was Stephen Rumizen who won the high jump with a distance of 1.96m.
Kyle Forrest finished second in the long jump with a distance of 6.90m, just 0.05m behind first while teammate Ryan Paquin placed third with a distance of 6.79m.
Seth Robinson was second in the 110m hurdles, finishing with a time of 15.15.
Mahoney placed second in the 400m dash with a time of 48.60 while Monroe was fifth with a time of 48.91.
Otieno was third in the 100m dash with a time of 10.87m.
At the Bucknell Outdoor Classic, Lehigh had a pair of first place finishes in the 3,000m steeplechase. Evans Kosgei won his section with an IC4A qualifying time of 9:01.98, well surpass the time of 9:15.00 needed. Casey Gilboy also won his section in the event with a time of 9:19.99.
Russell Vignali was the other event winner as he took first in the 1,000m run with a time of 32:25.49.
Sam Bernitt placed fifth in the 5,000m run with a time of 14:27.94 while Evan Flach finished eighth with a time of 14:34.18. Both times qualified them for the IC4As, surpassing the time of 14:36.00 needed.
Tyler Mueller was Lehigh's fourth IC4A qualifier of the meet as he placed ninth in the 1,000m-run with a time of 30:16.54, surpassing the time of 31:08.00 needed.
Lehigh will look to keep its momentum going next weekend as the team splits up to compete in the Greyhound Invite at Moravian and the Larry Ellis Invitational at Princeton.
