Lehigh excels at Princeton and Moravian over the weekend

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh men's track and field team excelled in a pair of meets over the week as the Mountain Hawks competed at the Larry Ellis Memorial hosted by Princeton and the Greyhound Invitational at Moravian. Several personal records were set while a school record which had been held for 10 years was broken.
Evans Kosgei placed eighth in the 3000m steeplechase at the Larry Ellis Memorial with a time of 8:52.41, surpassing the previous school record of 8:54.72 which was set in 2002 by Alex L'Heureux. The time also qualified Kosgei for the IC4A Championships.
 
A personal record was also set as the Larry Ellis Memorial as James Miller ran 14:22.97 to place 27th in the 5000m run. The time also qualified Miller for the IC4A Championships.
 
The Mountain Hawks also shined at the Greyhound Invite where Lehigh took first in three events.
 
Stephen Rumizen won the high jump with a distance of 2.01m. In the 3000m steeplechase, Lyle O'Brien took first with a time of 9:27.61. Casey Gilboy placed seventh in the event with a time of 9:57.37.
 
Lehigh's third event winner was Seth Robinson, who had a stellar day. He won the 110m hurdles with a time of 14.97. Robinson then placed second in the 400m hurdles with a time of 54.03, less than a second behind first.
 
Robinson wasn't only the second-place finisher for the Mountain Hawks. Ricky Okoye was second in the discus throw with a distance of 45.94m while Benjamin Sourbeer was right behind him in third (45.68m). Lehigh's 4x100m relay team of Devin Monroe, Martin Otieno, Ryan Paquin and Ifeanyi Edochie placed second, less than a second away from first.  Daniel Paez finished second in the 800m run with a time of 1:54.79, which was just 0.15 behind first.  And Ryan Mahalsky placed second in the 5000m run with a time of 15:19.43.
 
Also, Reigning Patriot League Rookie of the Week Justin Mahoney placed second in the 400m dash with a time of 49.16.
 
Lehigh got some other outstanding performances though out the meet as the Mountain Hawks placed another three runners inside the top 10 along with Paez in the 800m. Gregory Caldewell placed fourth in the event with a time of 1:55.23 while Christopher Watson was fifth (1:55.43) and Simon Voorhees was ninth (1:56.62).
 
In the long jump, Lehigh placed five in the top 10. Alexander Maurer led the way with a third place finish and a distance of 6.68m. Stephen Tutunjian was right behind him in fourth (6.56m) while Paquin was fifth(6.51m), Kyle Forrest placed eighth (6.44m) and Patrick Ciez was ninth (6.35m).
 
In the 1500m run, Mitchell Biler (3:59.51) and Evan Flach (3:59.53) were fourth and fifth, respectively, finishing within 0.02 seconds of each other.
 
Lehigh will be back in action next weekend for the Penn Relays in Philadelphia and the Mountain Hawks will also host the Lehigh Games on Goodman Campus.
