Mountain Hawks close out fall season at Lehigh Invitational

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – In its final event of the fall season, the Lehigh women's golf team finished seventh at the Lehigh Invitational, which wrapped-up Sunday on the Grace Course at Saucon Valley Country Club. The Mountain Hawks followed up a round of 317 on Saturday with a 323 on Sunday to finish at 640.
“We faced a tough course and gave it our best,” explained head coach Judy Dwyer. “The course played harder than Yale, which was a very tough course. Our ladies competed well. We gave it our best, but our results can be better. Shooting 80 isn't bad if you only have one and you have some 70s in there. It shows we have some work to do as we move towards the spring.”
Junior Crystal Lee was the Mountain Hawks' top performer shooting 157 (77-80) to tie for 16th place. Lee was followed by sophomore Kelly Moylan who shot consecutive rounds of 80 to tie for 23rd at 160, and senior Chelsea Michalek who shot 161 (79-82) to tie for 28th.Also competing for the Mountain Hawks were senior Ginette Schapira, who shot 162 (81-81) to place 32nd and freshman Nicole Feierberg, who tied for 33rd at 165 (81-84).
Lehigh also had five players compete as individuals, led by sophomore Melanie Dickens, who carded a 167 (79-88). Freshman Tess Jennings shot an 81 on Sunday to finish at 171 (90-81). Junior Elle Sander (92-83) and senior Natalie Lansing (90-85) both finished at 175, while sophomore Alyssa Scheyd finished at 178 (88-90).
Powered by a final round 296, Princeton edged Seton Hall by one stroke to capture the team title. The Tigers finished at 603 (307-296), while the Pirates finished at 604 (305-299). Lehigh finished nine strokes behind sixth place Georgetown and 17 ahead of eighth place Siena.
Three individuals tied for low score at 147, but in lieu of a playoff final round scores were used to break the tie. Princeton's Kelly Shon earned top honors behind a final round 72, while her Tiger teammate Anna Jang shot 73 to earn second place. Kortnie Maxoutopoulis of Rutgers shot 75 and claimed third place.
The Mountain Hawks' spring season will begin in March.
