BETHLEHEM, Pa. - For the second straight year, Lehigh Smith Family Head Lacrosse Coach Kevin Cassese will coach the U.S. Men's Senior National Team in the 2011 US Lacrosse Stars & Stripes Weekend at Duke University. Team USA will take on the Blue Devils in an exhibition game on Sunday, Oct. 9 at 11 a.m. Last year, Cassese coached the United States to a 17-12 win at Harvard as part of the 2010 event.
"I'm looking forward to coaching Team USA in the Stars and Stripes weekend," said Cassese. "I have been involved with the Men's Senior National Team for almost 10 years now and I truly enjoy representing the Red, White and Blue. It will be a special treat to coach alongside friend and 2010 teammate Sean Nadelen. It will also be fun to go back to Durham, North Carolina and take on the alma mater."

A Duke alum, Cassese will team with newly-hired Towson head coach Shawn Nadelen on the United States' coaching staff. The two teamed up to win the 2010 Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) World Championship.

The current U.S. team features members of that championship team, members of the 2009 training team and a number of players who have starred at the professional level, including two former Blue Devils – (2010 Tewaaraton Award Winner Ned Crotty and 2008 Tewaaraton Award Winner Matt Danowski).

Returners from the 2010 men's team include: Joe Cinosky (Maryland '08), Ned Crotty (Duke '10), Stephen Peyser (Johns Hopkins '08), Paul Rabil (Johns Hopkins '08), Chris Schiller (Penn State '99), Max Seibald (Cornell '09), Matt Striebel (Princeton '01) and Drew Westervelt (UMBC '07).

Along with his United States' coaching experience at Harvard, Cassese also led Team USA to a 12-7 victory over Notre Dame at ESPN Wide World of Sports last January.

The men's exhibition is in addition to four Women's Senior National Team games. The women face North Carolina on Saturday (Oct. 8) at 5 and 7 p.m. then Navy on Sunday at 9 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. (following the men's game against Duke). All weekend events are scheduled to take place on the fields next to Koskinen Stadium.
