BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Following a thrilling 4-3 overtime win over La Salle, two members of the Lehigh field hockey team were recognized on Monday with Patriot League weekly awards. Senior Abby Tilton earned Offensive Player of the Week honors after racking up two goals and two assists over the weekend while sophomore Sierra Segear garnered Goalkeeper of the Week following a combined 30 saves in her first-ever collegiate action.
Tilton enjoyed a career week, highlighted by a two-goal, one-assist effort as part of Lehigh's comeback victory over La Salle. The win snapped the Mountain Hawks' three-game losing streak against the Explorers, giving them their first victory in the head-to-head series since 2007. In total, Tilton had a hand in four of Lehigh's five goals on the weekend, also posting an assist on the team's lone goal at Monmouth Friday.
A senior co-captain, Tilton spearheaded the comeback charge on Sunday, assisting on the Mountain Hawks' first goal (which pulled them within 2-1), scoring the game-tying goal (to make it 2-2), then later netting the overtime game-winner. Her two goals and five points both mark a career high.
On the other end of the field was Segear, who dazzled in her first collegiate action, starting with a 16-save performance at Monmouth to keep Lehigh tied until the 49:13 mark. After the Hawks scored early in the contest, she kept them off the board for the next 48:11 between their first and second goals, allowing Lehigh junior Kim Eng to net the equalizer late in the first half.
Segear went on to make 14 saves against La Salle Sunday, including 11 in the second half to help force overtime. She again kept the Mountain Hawks close with save after save, including a number of sensational stops towards the end of regulation to force overtime. For the season, Segear leads the Patriot League with an .811 save percentage and 15 saves per game.
The Mountain Hawks return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Quinnipiac to face the Bobcats in a game originally postponed due to Hurricane Irene. Lehigh then hosts Fairfield on Saturday before heading to Saint Joseph's Sunday.
