BALTIMORE, Md. - Lehigh men's lacrosse senior Jonathan Stumpf was named a Lowe's Senior First Team All-American on Saturday. The announcement came at the NCAA Championships in Baltimore. A Lowe's Senior CLASS Award Finalist, Stumpf is joined on the first team by winner Brian Karalunas (Villanova) along with Kevin Crowley (Stony Brook), Ryan Flanagan (North Carolina) and John Galloway (Syracuse).
The second team members include fellow Patriot Leaguer Stefan Bauer (Lafayette) along with Grant Catalino (Maryland), Johnathan Falcone (Yale), Anthony Iannello (Bryant) and Tom Montelli (Duke).
An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
One of three team captains, Stumpf's impact has gone far beyond the lacrosse field. He has posted a 3.88 cumulative GPA in the Integrative Business and Engineering Honors Program, one of the most challenging majors at Lehigh. He has played a key role in the team's leadership initiative, which includes experience in the Leadership Legacies program. In addition, Stumpf has helped spearhead the Mountain Hawks' community efforts, which includes elementary school visits, various community clean-ups, free community lacrosse clinics and more.
Owning a laundry list of accolades, Stumpf was also named Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year while earning Academic All-District First Team as well. An All-League and Academic All-League honoree, Stumpf finished his senior season with career highs in goals (15), assists (10) and points (25) while firing a career-high 81 shots. His highlight game came at Holy Cross when he netted his second-career hat trick in an 11-5 victory. He also had two goals and two assists in Lehigh's historic 14-10 victory over Navy. Stumpf played in Friday's North-South All-Star Game where he netted the eventual game-winning goal in the South's 15-11 victory.
