BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Lehigh men's lacrosse seniors Will Scudder and Jonathan Stumpf have been selected to participate in the 2011 USILA/Lax World Division I/II North-South All-Star Game, as announced on Tuesday. The duo will team up on the South Team. The contest is slated for Friday at 5:30 p.m. at Goucher College's Beldon Field in Baltimore, Md.
This marks the first time Lehigh has seen multiple players selected since 1997. Scudder and Stumpf are also the Mountain Hawks' first selections since Fred Cassilly in 2008. Lehigh head coach Kevin Cassese served as an assistant coach for the 2009 contest.
This year's South Team will be coached by Lafayette head coach Terry Mangan. Joining Scudder and Stumpf on the team will be three Patriot League players, all from Bucknell - Jake Clarke, Ryan Klipstein and Mike Danylyshyn. They will square off against four other league foes on the North Team - Jeremy Boltus, Tom Palesky and Rob McCallion (Army) and Dave Tucciarone (Colgate).
Scudder wrapped up a stellar four-year career as one of the best faceoff specialists in school history. For his career, he won 54.1 percent of his draws (331-of-612) while scooping 156 groundballs. Scudder's highlight season came as a junior when he was named a Second Team All-Patriot League honoree, winning 55.8 percent (140-of-251). He also posted 69 groundballs for a second straight season. As a senior, he split time with sophomore Ryan Snyder at the X, winning 49.2 percent on the season (29-of-59).
Stumpf has racked up a number of honors following a sensational senior season, both on and off the field. On the field, he was named to the All-Patriot League Second Team, while earning Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year for his tremendous work in the classroom. Stumpf is a finalist for the prestigious Lowe's Senior CLASS Award while also earning Academic All-District First Team laurels. Stumpf finished his senior season with a career-high in goals (15), assists (10) and points (25) while firing a career-high 81 shots. His highlight game came at Holy Cross this season when he netted his second-career hat trick in an 11-5 victory.
The first North-South College all-star game was played in 1940 at Municipal Stadium in Baltimore, MD. The North squad coached by Princeton's Bill Logan won that inaugural event with a 6-5 victory over the South team coached by Maryland's Jack Faber.
