BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Lehigh men's lacrosse senior Jonathan Stumpf continues to accumulate academic awards as on Thursday, he was named to the Capital One Academic All-District II At-Large Team. With the first team recognition, he now becomes eligible for Academic All-America status.
Stumpf has garnered a number of academic and athletic honors following a standout senior season. He was recently named Patriot League Scholar Athlete of the Year, along with cracking the Academic All-Patriot League Team and All-Patriot League Second Team. He was also named a Lowe's Senior CLASS Award Finalist, which recognizes student-athletes who excel in four areas: community, classroom, character and competition. Lowe's, an official Corporate Partner of the NCAA, will announce the winner May 28 at the NCAA Division I Men's Lacrosse Championship in Baltimore.
In the challenging Integrated Business & Engineering Honors Program, Stumpf owns a strong 3.88 GPA with a focus in Electrical Engineering. Stumpf has posted two perfect 4.0 terms, while receiving the Faculty Athletics Council Academic Award and cracking the Dean's List each and every semester. He has been a Patriot League Academic Honor Roll recipient each year as well.
Stumpf is now eligible for Academic All-America status, which will be released on June 7. He looks to become the second Mountain Hawk in as many years to be named an Academic All-American after Evan Guerrero earned USILA Scholar All-America laurels last season.
An All-Patriot League honoree for the first time in his career, Stumpf enjoyed a career year on the field, posting a career-high 25 points via a career-high 15 goals and 10 assists. His top game came at Holy Cross when he posted a hat trick in Lehigh's 11-5 victory over the Crusaders. Stumpf also added four points (two goals, two assists) in the Mountain Hawks' historic 14-10 victory over Navy on Mar. 1, their first win over the Midshipmen since 1913.
One of three team captains, Stumpf ran on the first midfield line for a second straight season. He has shown great leadership on and off the field as he is heavily involved in Lehigh's Leadership Legacies program as well.
