BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh track and field teams will travel to the Lafayette dual meet on Sunday afternoon. The men's and women's teams will be looking for revenge after suffering losses to the Leopards in last year's dual meet.
In last year's events, the Mountain Hawks couldn't spoil the opening of Lafayette's new track as both teams fell to the Leopards in the outdoor Lehigh-Lafayette dual meet. On the women's side the Mountain Hawks had six winners, but the Leopards were able to win the meet 111-92. The men were a little closer as they fell 106-97 after winning eight of the 19 events.
This past winter, Lehigh enjoyed a solid day on as both the men's and women's teams defeated crosstown rival Lafayette in an indoor dual on the Goodman Campus. The men's team defeated the Leopards 107-74 while the women's team picked up a 101-80 win.
On the men's side in that event, Lehigh won five of the six field events. Steven Tutunjian, who was named the male field athlete of the meet, captured first place in the long jump and the triple jump, posting distances of 7.12 meters and 15.06 meters respectively. Patrick Ciez took first place laurels in the high jump, as he scored a jump of 2.04 meters. Christopher Buck took first place in the shot put and the weight throw. On the women's side, Lehigh won three of the six field events that took place. Brooke Astor, who was named the female athlete of the meet, scored a 1.57 meter high jump, good for first place in that event. The Mountain Hawks were also winners in the long jump, where Alexandra Doersam posted a jump of 5.59 meters, and the weight throw, where E'Lana Lemon tossed a distance of 16.02 meters.
This past weekend, the Mountain Hawk track and field teams competed in the Lafayette Invitational on the Lafayette campus. With 143 total points, the men's team took first place. The women's team finished 140 points, earning them a second place finish. Lehigh also had an IC4A qualifier in the javelin throw, as Kevin Steimle posted a distance of 60.82 meters, over two meters greater than the qualifying mark.
Following Sunday, Lehigh will travel to the Moravian Pollard Invitational and the Bucknell Distance Invitational next weekend.
