Mountain Hawks to participate at Larry Ellis Memorial Invitational on Friday

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh track and field teams, under the direction of 14th year head coach Matt Utesch, will travel to Princeton University on Friday to participate in the Larry Ellis Memorial Invitational. The Mountain Hawks will take part in the women's 800 meter run, the men's 800 meter run, the women's 1,500 meter run, the men's 1500 meter run, the women's 3000 meter steeplechase, the men's 3000 meter steeplechase, the women's 5000 meter run and the men's 5000 meter run.
Lehigh turned in a solid performance at Bucknell last weekend, as the Mountain Hawks had three IC4A qualifiers.
The Brown and White had a strong showing in the 10,000 meter run as the Mountain Hawks had two IC4A qualifiers in that event. Evans Kosgei posted a qualifying time of 30:09.79, which is also a school-record. Stephen Sample clocked in at 31:04.83, also beating the qualifying time by four seconds.In the 1,500 meter run, Nicholas Malloy finished in third in his respective section, clocking in at 4:09.01. Niall Buckley had a strong finish with a time of 3:55.89, just over four seconds short of the qualifying time. Christos Rallis (4:04.94) and Stephen Abate (4:05.45) also had strong finishes for Lehigh.
On the women's side, Lehigh had a strong performance on Friday in the 1500 meter run. Three Mountain Hawk runners clocked in at times under 4:50 as Lauren Pietrosh finished with a squad-best time of 4:42.47. Following her was Katherine Howley (4:43.07) and Katherine Pierce (4:47.02).On Saturday in the women's 800 meter run, Kathleen Ryan finished first in her section with a time of 2:20.94. Julia Perry and Brittany Pietrosh finished in third and fourth respectively clocking in at 2:20.63 and 2:21.05. Jessica Kendzor also finished in first place in her section of the event as she finished with a time of 2:18.44.
In the field events on Saturday, Jimil Ataman won the hammer throw in her flight with a distance of 46.33 meters. In Flight 2, Emily Settle took first place as well posting a meet-high distance of 48.96 meters. Elana Lemon took third in in Settle's flight, throwing a distance of 48.70 meters.
On the women's side at the Greyhound Moravian Invitational, which was also held last weekend, Lehigh had two athletes win running events. Lehigh Alum Edann Brady, who is also the wife of cross country coach Todd Etters, took first place in the 3000 meter steeplechase with a final time of 11:22.21. Additionally, Julia Perry (2:18) won the 800 meter run by one second.
For the men, Stephen Tutunjian took first place in the triple jump with a final of 14.81 meters. Kevin Steimle took fourth place in the javelin throw with a final of 60.82 meters, which is an IC4A qualifying distance.
Next up for Lehigh will be the Lehigh Games and Penn Relays next weekend.
