Men in first, women in third after day two of Winthrop Invitational

ROCK HILL, S.C. - Kyle Forrest was crowned champion in the men's decathlon with 6,621 total points at the ASICS Winthrop Invitational on Friday afternoon. Coming in right behind Forrest was Ryan Paquin in second and Alexander Maurer in third. On Thursday, Paquin set a personal record in the high jump (1.82 m). Maurer also posted a personal record in the high jump (1.97) for a first place finish in that event. Forrest had a personal record in the 100 meter dash (11.49).
On Friday, Forrest earned first place in the 1500 meter dash and tied his personal best in the pole vault (3.85 m). Maurer and Paquin were dominant in their respected sections of the 110 meter hurdles of the decathlon, as they each placed first. In the finals, Paquin finished first in with a time of 16.10 while Maurer came in second at 16.43. Paquin (33.15 m) and Maurer (31.19 m) also finished in second and third respectively in the discus throw, a personal record for both athletes. Maurer also set a personal record in the pole vault (3.15 m).
The men were dominant in the multi events, as they currently sit in first place overall. Stephen Rumizen placed eighth in the long jump with a personal record of 6.54 meters. Seth Robinson finished 10th in 400 meter dash prelims (51.20) on the men's side.
In the women's heptathlon, Lehigh's Brooke Astor finished in third place with 4,207 points. On Thursday afternoon,Astor competed in four events. In the 100 meter hurdles, Astor posted a time of 15.17. In the other track event, Astor posted a time of 26.17. Over in the field events, Astor had a 1.49 meter high jump and a 7.4 meter shot put throw. On Friday, Astor finished first in the 800 meter run of the heptathlon with a time of 2:32.52. She rounded out the heptathlon with third place finishes in the long jump and javelin throw.
As a team, the women currently sit in third place. Tiffany Penge finished in eighth place (1.55 m) in the high jump. Jessica Perrone finished in 11th in the 400 meter dash prelims (1:00.95) while Victoria Oliva finished 16th (1:02.90).
Lehigh also had two women athletes compete in the Raleigh Relays at N.C. State. Katherine Pierce had a strong fifth place finish in the 10,000 meter run (35:42.68). Victoria Berrard also competed in the event, finishing 19th.
