BETHLEHEM, Pa. – After opening its home schedule by winning five out of six games against Penn and Niagara, Lehigh had two student-athletes honored with Patriot League weekly softball awards, which were announced on Monday. Sophomore shortstop Jen Colquhoun was named the league’s Player of the Week while freshman catcher Liz Lucas earned Rookie of the Week honors for the second time in three weeks. The Mountain Hawks swept a doubleheader from Penn and took three of four games from Niagara to improve to 12-8 on the season.
Colquhoun picked up the first Player of the Week honor of her career while leading the way for a Lehigh offense that hit .356 in six games last week and averaged seven runs per game. The Oak Park, California native was 9-for-17 at the plate (.529) with five runs scored, three doubles and 12 runs batted in. Colquhoun went 3-for-3 and blasted her third home run of the season for the only two runs in Lehigh’s 2-0 win over Penn in game one of a doubleheader Wednesday. She proceeded to hit safely in all six games last week and has now hit in 11 straight games this season. Colquhoun also drove in at least one run in all six games, and drove in multiple runs in all but one of those games.
For the season, Colquhoun ranks third on the Mountain Hawks with a .351 average while leading Lehigh with three home runs and 24 RBI.
Lucas picked up her second Rookie of the Week nod after batting .375 (6-for-16) in six games with four runs scored and nine RBI. Four of her six hits went for extra bases, including her first career home run on Saturday. Lucas’ nine RBI came in the final three games against Niagara and included the first two four-RBI games for a Lehigh player this season as she drove in four runs in game two of Lehigh’s Saturday and Sunday doubleheaders versus Niagara.
The Westminster, Colorado native has raised her season average to .286, good for fourth on the team, while Lucas now ranks second behind Colquhoun with 14 RBI this season.
Lehigh continues its 12-game home stand on Wednesday when the Mountain Hawks welcome Princeton to Kaufman Field for a doubleheader in Lehigh’s final tune-up before Patriot League play begins on Saturday. First pitch for game one on Wednesday is set for 3 p.m. and all the action can be heard live online at Lehighsports.com.
