Mountain Hawks welcome Crusaders to town

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Mountain Hawks men’s lacrosse team is gearing up to face Patriot League foe Holy Cross on Saturday, March 27 at the Ulrich Sports Complex. The opening face-off is set for 2 p.m. as Lehigh looks to shake off a tough loss to Army its last time out on Tuesday evening. Holy Cross meanwhile has lost its last two games, including a 12-3 setback vs. Navy on March 20 in Annapolis, Maryland.
The last time the Mountain Hawks faced the Crusaders Lehigh won by a score of 7-5 in Worcester, Massachusetts. Lehigh will be looking to continue its trend of success versus Holy Cross this upcoming weekend as the Brown and White has won all 19 meetings between the schools in men’s lacrosse.
On Tuesday, Lehigh out shot Army 34-28, including a 15-3 advantage in the final 15 minutes, but the Mountain Hawks were only able to produce five goals as they fell to the Black Knights 9-5 at home. Sophomore Adam Johnston scored two goals for the Brown and White, while Cameron Lao-Gosney, Roman Lao-Gosney and Dante Fantoni each scored once for the Mountain Hawks.
In goal for Lehigh, freshman Dan Carr sent back ten shots, while junior Will Scudder won 9-of-13 face-offs and scooped up a team-best six ground balls.
Johnston leads the Brown and White this season with 13 goals, while Cameron Lao-Gosney has scored 12 and Fantoni has added 11. Freshman David DiMaria continues to lead the team in assists with 13 and Scudder has won 62% of his face-offs. Scudder also leads the Mountain Hawks in ground balls with 26.
Carr has sent back 77 shots through eight games, having played 450 minutes during that time. The freshman net minder has a 50.7% save percentage and has faced over 220 shots.
Holy Cross had a tough loss at Navy last weekend, losing 12-3 in Annapolis. The Midshipmen scored the first seven goals of the game and the Crusaders were never able to recover. Freshman John Hannan netted a career-best two goals for Holy Cross, while senior Edison Parzanese found the back of the net once. Crusaders goal keeper Connor Sweeney made ten saves and posted a save percentage of 71.4%, and Conor McKenna and Douglas Broussard picked up seven ground balls each.
For the season Parzanese leads the Crusaders with 18 points (eight goals, ten assists), while Chris Smirti (14), James Kennedy (11) and Kenny Minor (10) have posted double digit goal totals. A.J. Guarente has won 58 face-offs and Broussard is the team leader in ground balls with 33.
