BETHLEHEM, Pa. – On the field, the Lehigh softball program posted its tenth straight season with at least 30 victories in 2010. Off the field, the Mountain Hawks were once again honored for their work in the classroom as Lehigh was one of 132 Division I softball programs recognized when the National Fastpitch Coaches Association announced its All-Academic Teams. Lehigh, led by head coach Fran Troyan, owned a 3.172 team grade point average in the 2009-10 academic year, good for 84th among Division I programs.
To be eligible for the NFCA All-Academic Team award, a program must have a team GPA of 2.75 or better in the 2009-10 academic year. Robert Morris topped the list, with Bowling Green, USC-Upstate, Drake and Campbell rounding out the top five. This marks the fourth time in five years that Lehigh earned All-Academic Team honors, including a third place finish nationally following the Mountain Hawks' record-setting 2006 season. In addition, four Mountain Hawks earned NFCA Scholar-Athlete honors for earning GPAs of 3.5 or better last year: senior Carly Potock, junior Jen Colquhoun, sophomore Rosie Roessel and Lauren Eichblatt '10, who graduated in May. Colquhoun was voted Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year for softball in May, while Potock, who topped Lehigh with a 3.91 GPA in the spring, led a group of nine Mountain Hawks that were named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll in June.
Lehigh recently completed its fall softball season. The Mountain Hawks return 13 players from last year including five all-league performers and seven members of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll. Lehigh is scheduled to open the 2011 season at the ECU Pirate Classic, February 25-27 in Greenville, N.C.
