BETHLEHEM, Pa - Lehigh head men’s lacrosse coach Kevin Cassese has announced the Mountain Hawks 2010 schedule, which includes an even eight home dates and eight road contests for the Brown and White. This season’s slate includes games versus three teams that participated in last year’s NCAA tournament.

The Mountain Hawks will start the 2010 season on the road on Saturday, February 13 as they begin play against Saint Joseph’s. The following Saturday, the team continues with its away streak, traveling  down to Chapel Hill, N.C. to take on the North Carolina Tar Heels. The Tar Heels were ranked sixth in the 2009 NCAA tournament last year and finished the season with 12 wins, before falling to No. 3 ranked Duke in the quarterfinals.

The Mountain Hawks open their home schedule on Saturday February 27, when they take on Villanova at the Ulrich Sports Complex. The Wildcats qualified for the NCAA tournament for the first time ever in the program’s history in 2009, and finished with a total of eleven wins on the season.  Lehigh continues its home contests, as it welcomes Patriot League power Navy to the Ulrich Sports Complex on March 2. This marks the first Patriot League game of the season for the Mountain Hawks, and as always, is sure to be a tough battle. Last season, the Midshipmen once again qualified for the NCAA tournament by claiming the 2009 Patriot League Championship.

Lehigh then hits the road for another long trip, this time to Denver, Colorado at the Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium to take on the Denver Pioneers and Air Force Falcons for the Pioneer Face-Off Classic.  Both teams finished the 2009 season with a total of seven wins.  Lehigh has not taken on Air Force since earning a 13-10 victory in 2001, while the Mountain Hawks and Pioneers will be also meeting for the first time since 2001.

The Mountain Hawks will return home for a four game home series beginning on Saturday, March 13 against Ivy League contender Yale. The schools have not faced off since 2003.  March 15 brings Detroit Mercy to the Ulrich Sports Complex in what will be the first-ever meeting between the two schools in men’s lacrosse.

The following Tuesday, March 23 the Brown and White will welcome its second Patriot League foe in Army.  Last season the Mountain Hawks had a tremendous comeback after trailing by eight goals in the third quarter against the Black Knights, to come back and win in overtime 13-12. Lehigh will finish its tough home stand against Patriot League opponent Holy Cross on March 27.

Lehigh next travels to Binghamton on the 30th to finish out the month of March for the Mountain Hawks in what will be the first meeting between the schools. That Saturday, the squad will return to Bethlehem for its last home game of the 2010 season against Sacred Heart on April 3.

On Saturday, April 10, Lehigh embarks on a set of three league contests on the road, rounding out the regular season for the Mountain Hawks.  The Brown and White will travel first to Hamilton, N.Y. for a match-up versus the Colgate Raiders. Last season, the Mountain Hawks fell to the Raiders in a tough 10-8 game.

Next, Lehigh will travel to Lewisburg to face Bucknell on April 16, while on April 24 they will finish the road schedule against arch-rival Lafayette. Last season’s match-up was one of the more physical and down-to –the-wire games for the Mountain Hawks, as they fell 9-8 to the rival Leopards.

Lehigh will open the 2009 spring season with a scrimmage versus the Stony Brook Seawolves on Sunday, February 7 at the Ulrich Sports Complex.
