BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Kevin Cassese will make the trip to New England this weekend as he competes for the Boston Cannons of Major League Lacrosse on Friday evening at Harvard Stadium.  The Cannons will look to shake off last weekend’s season opening setback to the Long Island Lizards, a game Boston lost 9-8 at home.  Cassese netted one goal in the contest, which put the Cannons in front, 7-6 early in the fourth quarter, but they were unable to hold the lead as Long Island ran off three straight scores to secure the victory.

Boston’s season opener was played in front of over 8,000 fans at Harvard Stadium and was a back-and-forth affair as the teams were tied at three after one quarter, and the Cannons led 4-3 at halftime.  The Lizards battled back to tie things at six heading into the final stanza, but Cassese and teammate Brett Garber scored a pair of goals in the opening 3:41 of the fourth to put Boston on top 8-6.  Cassese finished with two shots on goal and the one score.

This weekend Cassese will head back to Boston where he will serve as an assistant coach in the 2009 USILA North-South Senior All-Star Game.  Cassese will assist the North head coach Mike Pressler, the current head coach at Bryant University.  Cassese played and coached under Pressler at Duke University earlier this decade.  The All-Star Game gets underway at 4:00 followed by the Cannons’ second contest of the season, beginning at 7:30 later that evening versus the Denver Outlaws.  Denver dropped its opener to Chicago last weekend by a 13-11 score.
