George Evans was named the Patriot League’s Field Athlete of the Week following a pair of victories at the Monmouth Games in
West Long Branch, New Jersey over the weekend. Evans took first place in both the 100 and 200-meter dashes, as he crossed the finish line in a time of 10.76 in the 100-meter dash and followed that up with a time of 21.32 in the 200-meter dash. Evans’ time in the 100-meters was 0.15 seconds than the runner-up, while his 200 time eclipsed the second place finisher by 0.36 seconds.
Evans has been a model of consistency for the Mountain Hawks this outdoor season, having dashed his way to a pair of first place finishes in the season-opening Lehigh Valley Championships on March 26. Evans took first in the 100-meter dash and then followed that up with a first place finish in the 4x100-meter relay race. Evans then showed his stuff one day later against top-notch competition, taking first with a time of 10.96 in the 100-meter dash at the Penn State Invitational.
In Lehigh’s annual meet versus archrival Lafayette, Evans led the Mountain Hawk men to a victory over the Leopards as he earned two first place finishes in his signature races, the 100 and 200-meter dashes. The senior then showcased his skills against some of the best runners in the nation, placing fifth in the 100 at the Virginia Invitational in Charlottesville on April 10.
Lehigh and Evans return to the track on Wednesday when the Mountain Hawks travel to Philadelphia to compete in the legendary Penn Relays. That meet is scheduled to run through Friday and Lehigh will then return to Bethlehem before heading off to New Jersey on Saturday to compete in the The College of New Jersey Invitational in Ewing beginning at 10:00 am.
