Following a three-day performance at the Patriot League Swimming & Diving Championships, the 2002-2003 season has concluded. The Lehigh men placed second at the championships and finished the season with a 6-5 overall record, 2-2 in the Patriot League. The men also managed a five meet winning streak this season that spanned more than two months. The women were third at the championships and concluded the season 6-6 overall, 2-3 in the Patriot League. At the championships, 12 records fell; six on day one, four on day two, and two on day three. Bing Padmasankha ends his career as Lehigh’s all-time points leader with 491 points, a record that he broke at the Delaware Invitational December 6th and 7th. Padmasankha also concludes his career as the owner of four school records. On the women’s side, Laura Gabrynowicz swam her final event at the championships. Gabrynowicz broke her own school record in the 400-yard medley relay, a mark that has stood since her freshman year. She was also two-time team captain and is widely regarded by her teammates as a leader and motivator. "I am pleased with how everyone did this season," said head coach John Morrison. "We had a tremendous showing the championships and it was a hard fought meet. A lot of personal bests were achieved, 13 school records fell, and we managed 45 top ten finishes. Our team raised the competitive bar along with the rest of the league and I was pleased to see our fight in that atmosphere," added Morrison. "Early in the season we had a lot of obstacles to overcome, including not having a pool to swim in until our first meet. I am real proud of how hard we worked and all that we overcame." Lehigh will say goodbye to only six-student athletes; two on the women’s side and four on the men’s. With such a strong core of competitors returning next season, the Mountain Hawks certainly will be among the favorites in the Patriot League.
