Lehigh falls to Yale, men drop second straight

Bethlehem, PA- The swimming & diving teams returned to the water less than 24 hours after their meet with American and were defeated by Yale 197-106 on the women’s side and 181-119 on the men’s side. With the loss, the men fall to 6-3 overall, while the women fall to 5-5 overall. The Yale wins improve the Bulldog’s record to 4-1 on the women’s side and 6-0 on the men’s side. As a team, Lehigh managed only three wins on the women’s side. Picking up victories for the Mountain Hawks were Caitlin Fiedler in the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 1:01.40, Laura Gabrynowicz in the 400 yard IM with a time of 4:40.86, and the team of Fiedler, Becky Hiro, Jess Staple, and Alyssa Zellner in the 400 yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:46.66. For the men, the loss was the second consecutive set back and third of the season. Lehigh placed first in six events. In the first men’s event of the afternoon, the 200-yard medley relay, the team of Ian Gillen, Kyle Gold, William Green, and Jake Fletcher took the top spot with a time of 1:36.75. The Mountain Hawks next first place result came during the 100-yard breaststroke. Grant Flothmeier took home first place honors by posting a time of :59.43. Fletcher again took home the top spot, outlasting Yale’s Adam Green in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of :21.70. Flothmeier earned his second victory of the afternoon in the 200-yard breaststroke, posting a time of 2:11.47, while Scott Jakubowski earned 209.03 and 230.63 points respectively in the one meter and three meter dives. The Yale meet was the last home competition for the Mountain Hawks this season. Lehigh takes to the road, as it will conclude its schedule at Bucknell on February 1st and at Marist on February 8th.
