BETHLEHEM, Pa. – In their first competitions in over six weeks, the Lehigh swimming and diving teams split a dual meet with Marist Saturday afternoon at Jacobs Pool. The Mountain Hawk men moved to 8-0 on the dual season, winning 10-of-13 events to defeat the Red Foxes 156-87. On the women’s side, Lehigh won just three-of-13 events as Marist prevailed 141-102, dropping the Mountain Hawks to 4-3.

“Both teams were beaten up from their intense winter break training,” explained Lehigh head coach Rob Herb. “The workloads were doubled, but today’s results were good. Kevin McGrath and Jon Westfield had strong showings on the men’s side while freshman Emily DiDonato did well to win the 200 breast for the women.”

McGrath was one of two Mountain Hawks to win multiple individual events as he took the 200 IM in 1:57.44 and also won the 200 breaststroke in 2:10.50. Also winning two events was freshman Frank Cuzzola, who prevailed in the 200 freestyle (1:45.24) and also captured the 100 free in 48.05 seconds.

Westfield’s strong day included a win in the 50 free in a time of 22.16 seconds. Other Lehigh winners included sophomore Chris Toth, who captured the 1000 free, junior Billy Dunne, who won the 200 back and freshman Tyler Lareau, who win the 500 free.

Lehigh’s men also captured wins in the 400 medley relay and the 400 free relay.

DiDonato led the women’s effort with a win in the 200 breast with a time of 2:29.40. Lehigh’s women also captured the final women’s event of the day as freshman Katie Haycraft, junior Kristen Keenan and sophomores Alena Pollitt and Paola Simon teamed to win the 400 free relay in 3:42.74.

On the diving boards, senior Erin Tormey won the women’s one meter, with a score of 225.45 and added a second place finish in the two meter.

The Mountain Hawks will be back in the pool Friday night when they travel to Army for a Patriot League meet. Action gets underway at 5 p.m. from West Point, N.Y.
