Lehigh splits with American

Bethlehem, PA – The swimming & diving teams returned to Jacobs Pool Friday for the first time in two months to face American. The women were victorious 143-120, while the men fell 122-121. With the split the women improve to 5-4 overall, 2-2 in the Patriot League, while the men fall to 6-2 overall, 2-1 in league competition. The American split gives the men their fourth consecutive win (4-0, 3-0), while the women remain winless (0-5, 0-4). Lehigh’s women picked up wins in the 400-yard medley relay, the 1000-yard freestyle, 200-yard IM, 200-yard butterfly, 200-yard backstroke, 400-yard freestyle relay, and the 1-meter dive. Leading the way for the women were seniors Linsey Kokal and Laura Gabrynowicz. Kokal was a member of the 400-yard medley team that posted a finishing time of 4:04.43, while Gabrynowicz took second place in the 200-yard freestyle and first place in the 200-yard butterfly. American’s women fought hard, earning a handful of first place finishes, including the 200-yard freestyle and 50-yard freestyle. Jessica Lindstrom won the 200 with a time of 1:56.78, while Kia Kilpinen took home the top spot in the 50 with a time of :25.62. On the men’s side, Lehigh battled until the very end. Senior Bing Padmasankha posted a first place finish in the 200-yard freestyle, while the team of Ian Gillen, Grant Flothmeier, William Green and Jake Fletcher took the top spot in the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 3:29.69. American’s top finishers included Ethan Basset in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 9:40.32, Mark Liscinsky in the 50 and 100-yard freestyle with times of :21.30 and :45.88 respectively. "It was a great fight for us," said head coach John Morrison. "Our team is a bit broken down from winter training. The men and women both had great showings tonight against one of the top teams in the league. On the men’s side, we had a few people injured, however, we fought hard. We are looking forward to Yale tomorrow." Lehigh returns to action tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. to face Yale. The Mountain Hawks will be looking for their first ever victory over the Bulldogs.
