Sweeney earns spot on All-Tournament Team

TAMPA – Lehigh senior Lisa Sweeney was one of 13 players selected to the Under Armour Invitational All-Tournament Team, it was announced on Monday. Sweeney batted .412 with three extra base hits in five games over the weekend, and also added a complete-game three-hit shutout in the Mountain Hawks 2-0 win over eventual tournament champion USF.
In four appearances in the circle Sweeney was 1-3 with a 1.72 earned run average and she added 23 strikeouts in 20.1 innings of work to just three walks. In Saturday’s 2-0 triumph over the Bulls, Sweeney struck out eight and limited USF to just three hits, while also going 3-for-3 at the plate with a double, a triple and the eventual game-winning RBI.
Sweeney hit safely in four of Lehigh’s five games and raised her season batting average to .283.
Tournament runner-up Connecticut led the way with three All-Tournament Team selections, while Villanova and host USF had two apiece.
The Mountain Hawks will return to action on Friday at the JMU/Days Inn Invitational in Harrisonburg, Va. Lehigh will open tournament play against Niagara at 9 a.m., followed by a 1 p.m. matchup against host James Madison.
