BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh had nine players named to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division I National Academic Squad, which was announced on Monday. Among those selected from the Mountain Hawks were Chelsea Erdmanis, Arielle Foucek, Melissa Fricke, Moira Garrity, Meghan Gove, Marissa Iannarone, Stephanie Palmieri, Christy Smith and Lauren Volpe.
Lehigh was also one of just 48 Division I field hockey programs to achieve a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher, which honors the Mountain Hawks with the NFHCA Division I National Academic Team Award. This is the fourth consecutive season that the Brown and White has earned this distinction as a team, after it earned a 3.03 team GPA in the 2005 fall semester, one of 15 varsity athletic programs to achieve a team GPA of at least 3.00 at Lehigh.
Lehigh ended its 2005 season with a record of 6-13, which included the team’s second straight postseason appearance, a first in school history. The Mountain Hawks are currently involved in winter workouts and will soon begin their spring schedule, as they gear up for another successful run in 2006.
