Lehigh wins second in a row

Bethlehem, PA – Lehigh won its second consecutive game as it defeated Monmouth by a score of 3-1 on Wednesday at the Ulrich Sports Complex. The Mountain Hawks have now won three in a row at home and three out of their last four overall. The win improves Lehigh to 3-4 on the season and drops the Hawks to 1-5.
Monmouth took the early lead when Allie Flaig scored off a corner just four minutes into the contest. However, Lehigh quickly came back as junior Krista Jamieson scored off a feed from senior captain Emily Beil, tying the score at one. The game would remain that way until sophomore Marissa Iannarone deflected the ball into the back of the net and scored what proved to be the game winner just three minutes into the second half. Senior captain Blaire Goodwin then knocked in an insurance goal, her fourth of the season, off of a Sheila Clabby assist, and the Mountain Hawks were on their way to another victory.
Junior Jeanine Hoff and sophomore Meghan Gove once again split time in the cage for Lehigh, with Hoff picking up three saves in the contest, and Gove registering one.
Head Coach Julie Mazer was pleased with the resiliency of her team. "This was a total team effort, with contributions coming from everyone. We kept fighting after they (Monmouth) scored the first goal, and we were able to capture the momentum." Mazer adds, "We still have lots of work to do, but we are winning and improving at the same time, which is always a good thing."
Lehigh opens its Patriot League schedule on Saturday when the Mountain Hawks play host to Colgate at the Ulrich Sports Complex. Game time is slated for 1:00 and can be heard live on Lehigh’s website.
