New York, NY-The Mountain Hawks wrapped up their season on the road Tuesday night as they traveled to Columbia University. Senior Cindy Tindall scored the lone goal for Lehigh, in its 2-1 loss against the Lions.
Columbia’s Melissa Macomber recorded the first goal of the night in the 21st minute of the contest. Macomber then set up teammate Tina Fernandez with less than a minute to go in the half to put the Lions up 2-0 at intermission.
The Mountain Hawks refused to be satisfied and stepped it up in the second half. Senior Cindy Tindall scored in the second minute of the new half to bring the Mountain Hawks with in one. Sophomore Blair Goodwin and senior Jane Knowles set up Tindall off a penalty corner. Knowles, who suffered a sprained ankle in the first half but played through it, ended her season with six assists.
The Mountain Hawks were out shot 21-1 and only managed 4 penalty corners to Columbia’s 21. Sophomore keeper Brynn Murphy finished the contest with 8 saves, giving her 53 on the season.
Head coach Michelle Finegan was pleased with her team’s second half effort. "We gave them a two goal lead and were forced to play catch up the rest of the game. Our second half was much better than the first and we had a beautiful corner to score the goal," said Finegan.
Tindall agreed with her coach. "We played much better in the second half. We played well tonight and I don’t think our record reflects how good we really are," Tindall added.
Seniors Maureen Banfe and Jenny Lehman shared the same sentiments as Tindall. "I am really proud of this team. We had a rough start but we played well the second half and came together. We came close to the Patriot League tournament this year and I think they will come even closer next year," said Banfe.
Lehman said, "Overall tonight was a fun game. We came in wanting to have fun and we did. Columbia is a very good team and unfortunately we didn’t come away with the win."
The Mountain Hawks completed their season 5-12 overall and 3-4 in the Patriot League.
