Lehigh forced into must-win situation

Forks Twp., PA – The Fairfield Stags (4-3 Patriot League) defeated the Lafayette Leopards (4-2) by a 5-1 score at Rappolt Field on Friday afternoon. With the Fairfield win, Lehigh is now faced with a must-win scenario on Saturday at Holy Cross (5-1 Patriot League) in order to qualify for the Patriot League Tournament.
The Mountain Hawks enter Saturday’s road contest with a 3-3 Patriot League mark. A loss would eliminate Lehigh from post-season contention. However, a win would give LU a 4-3 Patriot League record, and a subsequent spot in the tournament.
In the event of a tie between Lehigh and Fairfield in the standings (which would be the case if Lehigh wins at Holy Cross), the Mountain Hawks have the edge, thanks to a 3-1 Lehigh victory earlier this month.
"As a team we are experiencing our peak performance right now," said senior Maureen Banfe. "We still have a big game [Saturday], but we are confident that all of our hard work will pay off."
The top four teams qualify for the Patriot League Tournament, which will take place beginning Saturday, November 3, at the highest seed’s home turf. A Holy Cross victory over Lehigh on Saturday assures the Crusaders the privilege of hosting the tournament. Game time is set for Saturday afternoon at 1pm in Worcester, MA.
