BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh field hockey program placed nine student-athletes on the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division I National Academic Squad, announced on Monday. The National Academic Squad program recognizes those collegiate student-athletes who have achieved a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.30 through the first semester of the 2008-09 academic year.
Leading the way for the Mountain Hawks are juniors Julie Kuhns and Lindsey Smith who are both making their third consecutive appearance on the squad. Sophomores Lauren Cawley, Katey Fardelmann and Lilia Stefaniwsky earned a spot on the squad for the second straight year and are joined on the team by junior Kelly Fox and freshmen Caitlin Donnelly, Allison Kowalski and Abby Tilton.
Donnelly led Lehigh with a 3.92 GPA in the fall, and was one of ten Mountain Hawks named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll in January.
Lehigh was also one of 60 Division I field hockey programs to achieve a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher, which honors the Mountain Hawks with the NFHCA Division I National Academic Team Award. This is the seventh consecutive season that the Brown and White has earned this distinction as a team, after it earned a 3.18 team GPA in the fall semester.
The Mountain Hawks are currently in the midst of winter workouts and will soon begin spring preparations for the 2009 season.
