BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh women’s soccer program has once again been recognized for the work of its student-athletes in the classroom, as the Mountain Hawks were recognized with the 2008-09 Academic Team Award from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). The Mountain Hawks earned Academic Honors for the eighth time overall and the seventh straight season under head coach Manny Oudin with a 3.19 grade point average in the 2008-09 academic year.
The Academic Team Award is given to programs that posted a team GPA of 3.0 or higher during the 2008-09 academic year. A total of 570 programs across all divisions, 141 men’s and 329 women’s, earned the honor, with Lehigh now earning recognition following each of Manny Oudin’s first seven seasons as head coach. Among Patriot League women’s soccer programs, the Mountain Hawks were joined by Bucknell in receiving the academic honor.
The Mountain Hawks placed nine student-athletes on the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll following the 2008 season, with five of the recognized student-athletes: Liz Carlos, Hailey Coonrad, Glynn Fitzer, Natalie Hojnacki and Ali MacLeod competing for the Brown and White in the recently completed 2009 season.
On the pitch, Lehigh posted a 9-4-5 record this past season. All six of the Mountain Hawks graduating seniors have made significant contributions to the team’s academic success, as five of the six possess cumulative grade point averages of 3.0 or better.
