BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh men’s lacrosse team will close out its 2009 fall schedule this weekend as the Mountain Hawks travel to Syracuse, New York to take on Le Moyne College followed by Providence College. Lehigh will go up against Le Moyne at 11:00 on Sunday morning and get right back at it beginning at 1:00 that afternoon when it takes on Providence. The games will take place at Nottingham High School and will conclude what has been a very productive fall campaign for the Brown and White.
Le Moyne is a perennial powerhouse in Division II lacrosse having won three national championships in the last six seasons. The Dolphins went 16-1 a season ago falling to C.W. Post in the National Championship game. Le Moyne outscored its opponents 205 to 67 a season ago and out shot them 799 to 372. Providence, out of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, won six games a season ago while playing a very competitive schedule that included the likes of Syracuse, North Carolina, Hobart and Brown.
Lehigh took on Team England in its first fall competition on October 14 at the Ulrich Sports Complex and came out on top 12-2. Freshman Dante Fantoni led the Mountain Hawks’ offense with three scores, while junior Will Scudder won six-of-seven face-offs and freshman Ryan Snyder won four-of-five. The contest coincided with the program’s annual Community Night where Lehigh players and coaches put on a free skills clinic and later met with those in attendance.
Following this weekend the Mountain Hawks will shift into their winter training mode with the focus turning to weight lifting, speed training and skill development. Lehigh will hit the field for real for the first time on February 13 when it heads to Philadelphia to take on the Saint Joseph’s Hawks.
