BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh head coach Kevin Cassese will head to Boston this coming weekend to compete in the 2008 Major League Lacrosse (MLL) Championship Weekend, which takes place at Harvard Stadium. Cassese and his Philadelphia Barrage teammates, the number-four seed, will take on the top-seeded Rochester Rattlers on Saturday at noon before a live national television audience on ESPN2 in the semifinals. Should Philadelphia emerge victorious, Cassese will play in the 2008 MLL Championship game on Sunday afternoon at 1:00, also shown live nationwide on ESPN2.
Cassese will be gunning for his second consecutive MLL Championship this weekend after helping lead the Barrage to the 2007 title. The former Duke All-American scored the game-tying goal late in the semifinals a season ago versus Denver on a behind the back shot to propel Philly into the championship where it would go onto defeat Los Angeles. That marked Philadelphia’s second consecutive MLL title.
This season, due to his head coaching responsibilities at Lehigh, Cassese has appeared in only a handful of games for the Barrage, but he has made his presence felt in that time. In a win over the Boston Cannons on August 2, Cassese scored a two-point goal on a hidden ball trick that later was selected as the number-eight Play of the Day on ESPN’s SportsCenter. Cassese’s goal put the Barrage up by seven at that point and led to a playoff-clinching victory.
