BETHLEHEM, Pa. – After a week off, Lehigh (6-6 overall, 2-2 PL) returns to action on Saturday afternoon when the Mountain Hawks head to Hamilton, New York to face the Colgate Raiders (4-5 overall, 1-2 PL) in a game of huge importance.  Both teams enter this weekend with an eye towards the upcoming Patriot League Tournament and a win on Saturday would go a long way in helping to secure one of the three remaining bids up for grabs.

Lehigh was last in action on March 29 when the Mountain Hawks rallied for their eighth consecutive victory over archrival Lafayette in Easton.  Led by senior Fred Cassilly’s hat trick and eight goals scored in the middle two quarters, the Mountain Hawks were able to even up their record with a 9-7 victory.

For the season Cassilly is third on the team with 17 points, including ten goals and seven assists.  Junior Ricky Cornetta is the Mountain Hawks leading scorer with 13 goals and 20 points, while Max Dahlem has netted a team-best 15 goals and scored 19 points.  Jonathan Stumpf (nine goals, six assists) and Matt Diehl (eight goals, three assists) have also scored double figure points on the season, with Stumpf ranking tenth nationally among freshmen in total points.

Senior Stuart Baxter has won 77-of-151 faceoffs in the X and leads the Brown and White with 47 ground balls.  Baxter won 10-of-17 face-offs in the win over Lafayette.

On defense, Lehigh is led by seniors Dan Honeywell (35 ground balls, 13 CTs) and Tom Allen (34 ground balls, 10 CTs) along with sophomore Evan Guerrero (15 ground balls) and freshman Richard Bradley (31 ground balls, five goals).  That foursome has helped build the Mountain Hawks “D” into a stingy unit that has allowed an average of just 6.2 goals in the last five games.

Senior goal keeper Eric Spriko continues to have a strong season for the Brown and White, posting a save percentage of .516 in 664 minutes of action.  The New York native has sent back 97 shots in that time, having faced 313 shots on goal.

Colgate is led by preseason All-America Brandon Corp, who is tied for the team lead with 22 goals and leads the Raiders with 29 points.  Fellow preseason All-America Chris Eck has won 59 percent of his face-offs this season, while scooping up a team leading 41 ground balls, and Matt Lalli, yet another preseason All-America selection, has found the back of the net ten times, to go along with a team best ten assists.

Tim Harrington has played over 470 minutes in goal for the Raiders, posting a save percentage of .554 in that time to go along with 97 saves.

Colgate’s last game was on March 29 when the Raiders fell to Army in West Point by a score of 13-9.  The Raiders have dropped three straight contests, all versus nationally ranked foes, including Duke, Navy and Army.  Colgate’s last win came on March 11 versus Vermont (15-5).

Lehigh and Colgate will be meeting for the 33rd time overall with the Raiders holding a 22-10 advantage in the series.  The last four meetings have been decided by a total of just six goals with Colgate hanging on for a 10-8 win last year in Bethlehem.

Saturday’s game is slated to begin at 1:00 from Hamilton.  The game will be shown live via the link above.
