Lehigh welcomes No. 10 Notre Dame in finale

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Lehigh will close out its 2008 season on Sunday afternoon when the Mountain Hawk welcome No. 10 Notre Dame to the Ulrich Sports Complex. Lehigh was last in action on Friday April 5th when the Brown and White lost to Patriot League opponent Bucknell 11-6. Sunday’s game marks the seventh time this season Lehigh will face a nationally ranked opponent and the fourth at home.
On attack, junior Ricky Cornetta leads the Mountain Hawks with 24 points (15 goals, 9 assists) followed by classmate Max Dahlem with 20 points (16 goals, 4 assists). Senior Fred Cassilly and freshman Jonathan Stumpf have also scored in double digits this season.
Stu Baxter leads the Mountain Hawks with 58 ground balls followed by classmates Dan Honeywell and Tom Allen who each have 40. On the season, Baxter has won 86 of 176 face offs.
On the defensive end, Honeywell and Allen lead the team in caused turnovers with 14 and 10, respectively. In goal, senior Eric Spirko has recorded 117 saves which is good for a .527 save percentage in 779 minutes of play.
Notre Dame enters Sunday’s game with a 7-2 record. The Irish are scheduled to play Quinnipiac on Friday at 4 p.m. in
The Irish are led on attack by senior Alex Wharton who has recorded 28 points (11 goals, 17 assists) followed by juniors Ryan Hoff and Duncan Swezey who have recorded 24 and 23 points respectively.
Hoff currently leads the Irish with a team best 22 goals. Senior Taylor Clagett leads Notre Dame with 36 ground balls followed by Michael Padgajny who has 31.
On the defensive end, Ross Zimmerman has a team best eight caused turnovers. In goal, senior Joey Kemp has recorded 100 saves which is good for a .633 save percentage in 515 minutes of play.
Sunday will mark the fourth time these two teams have met. Notre Dame has won each of these games with the most recent being last year when the Mountain Hawks lost 14-2 in
Sunday’s game time is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the Ulrich Sports Complex. Lehigh Athletics is expecting one of its largest crowds ever for an event at the Ulrich Sports Complex and the all-time attendance record of 1,300 set in 2005 will be challenged.
