Lehigh reflects on season at annual Lewis Dinner

Several Lehigh program awards were handed out for individual accomplishments from the recently completed season.
The program’s highest honor, the Scholar-Athlete Award went to sophomore Manuel Schubert. Given to the student who best combines academics and athletics, Schubert, a biology major, holds a 3.98 cumulative grade point average, and has earned a perfect 4.0 GPA in four of his first five semesters at Lehigh. On the mat Schubert placed fourth at the EIWA Championships at 184, earning his first career berth to the NCAA Championships.
Nakasone was named the team’s Outstanding Athlete, awarded to the team member who makes the most outstanding athletic contribution to the accomplishment of the team. After returning to Lehigh for his final year of eligibility, Nakasone went 23-14 and won the EIWA title at 157, defeating eventual national champion Jordan Leen of Cornell 5-2 in the finals. Nakasone became the 117th Lehigh wrestler to win at least one EIWA title.
The Coaches Award went to freshman Alex Caruso. The award is given to the individual who made significant contributions to the well-being of the team in terms of attitude, improvement, or special leadership. Caruso enjoyed a terrific freshman season, winning 26 bouts and placing fourth in the EIWA. He had the furthest advancement in the NCAA tournament being eliminated one round short of the All-America round of 12.
