Mountain Hawks take first two from Bucknell

Game one started as a pitchers duel between Sweeney and Bucknell’s Christie Wiest, before Lehigh broke through with three runs in the fourth inning. Senior Julie Sterrett delivered Lehigh’s first hit of the day with a double down the left field line. Senior Mendy Martin followed with a single up the middle to give Lehigh a 1-0 lead. Sweeney followed with a two run homer to left field, her third of the season, to extend the Lehigh lead.
The Bison scored a run back in the fifth inning and had the bases loaded, but Sweeney struck out Mary Pavlovich to end the threat.
In the top of the sixth, Sweeney helped herself again with an RBI double that scored Sterrett. In the following frame Haney delivered an RBI single, and the Mountain Hawks added a seventh run on a Bucknell error.
Sweeney improved to 12-4 on the season, allowing just the one run on five hits. Christie Wiest suffered the loss and falls to 4-11.
Lehigh capitalized on three Bucknell errors in the nightcap. An error from Alyssa Okita allowed senior Heather Hamasaki to reach with two outs and Haney made Meaghan Haley pay with a home run to left field, her team leading fourth of the season.
The Mountain Hawks extended their lead to 3-0 after Megan Conrad doubled, and scored from third on another Bucknell error.
Bucknell pulled within one with two runs in the fourth inning, but Lehigh responded with three runs in the fifth and one in the sixth to increase their regular season winning streak over Bucknell to 25 games.
Haney and freshman Brooke Lewis added RBI singles in the fifth, while Hamasaki delivered a sacrifice fly in the seventh.
Freshman Tiffany Curtis evened her record at 7-7 allowing two runs on seven hits while striking out three. Haley took the loss for Bucknell, and falls to 1-3.
The Mountain Hawks and Bison will wrap up their four game series with a doubleheader on Saturday. First pitch for game one is set for noon from the Varsity Softball Field in
