“This wasn’t our best performance out there today,” head coach Liz Ota said afterwards. “We weren’t as sharp as we could have been and were a little tired after a very tough game against Bucknell on Saturday.” She continued, “That said, I think we continue to make improvements, such as in draw controls where Kara (Chalnnick) did a nice job for us. Rebounding continues to be an area that we need to get better in.”
Ota added, “We did a very nice job on their leading scorer (Megan O’Connor) as we held her to one goal. Carolyn Von Heil was on her the whole game and did a great job of defending her. Sarah Fudin also continues to play very well for us on the defensive end.”
Patrice Clark put the visitors in front 1-0 just 1:56 into the contest when she scored an unassisted goal, but Lehigh came right back and took the lead off of back-to-back goals from Carmola and junior Christy Smith. Olivia Jarem tied the game at two with 24:43 remaining in the half and Katie McGovern put the Aggies ahead 3-2 at the 15:18 clip. Senior Amy Chamberlain tied the game at three with an unassisted score of her own at the 9:33 mark, but Megan O’Connor gave UC-Davis the lead right back with a score on a feed from McGovern. Carmola tied the game at four with her second score of the half, but just 39 seconds later,
Smith opened the second half with her second goal of the day just 1:23 in, but the Aggies scored two straight to go in front 7-6. MacIntyre tied the score at seven on a free position shot with 24:13 left in the half, and Carmola gave the Mountain Hawks the lead with 23:35 remaining on an unassisted score. After a goal from McGovern tied the game once again, MacIntyre and senior Lissy King scored two straight for the Brown and White, pushing Lehigh’s lead up to two, at 10-8 with 17:45 left on the clock. A Jen Sanderson goal, her first of the season, on a free position shot made it a one-goal game, but Carmola gave the Mountain Hawks some breathing room with her fourth goal of the game at the 6:05 clip. Sanderson scored her second goal of the season with just over three minutes to go, but Lehigh’s defense held strong, and the offense was able to kill the clock, holding on for the victory.
Led by MacIntyre’s six shots, Lehigh unleashed 22 on the afternoon, and as a team, the Mountain Hawks scooped up 25 ground balls, led by Fudin’s four. Fudin also caused one turnover as she continually applied pressure to the UC-Davis offensive attack. Pharaon, Carmola, King and Ferris all recorded three ground balls on the day and Ferris sent back nine Aggie shots in goal. UC-Davis goal keeper Hilary Harkins recorded eight saves on the afternoon and scooped up three ground balls.
