2008 Men's Lacrosse schedule released

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Head coach Kevin Cassese has announced the 2008 Lehigh men’s lacrosse schedule, which includes eight home games and games against four teams that participated in last year’s NCAA tournament.  "The 2008 Mountain Hawk lacrosse schedule is one of the most challenging that I have been involved with during both my coaching and playing careers,” Cassese explained.  “The Patriot League is a highly competitive league where it seems that every game is a rivalry type game and our non-league schedule pits several of the top teams in the country.”

Cassese added, “With the growth of lacrosse and excitement surrounding the sport in the Lehigh Valley, we are especially excited about the challenging home schedule that lies ahead in 2008.  It certainly makes it an exciting time to be a Lehigh Lacrosse fan in the Valley."

The Mountain Hawks open the season on Saturday, February 16 in Philadelphia against St. Joseph’s University in the first of three consecutive away games against non-league opponents.  The team then travels to Brown (February 23) for the first ever match-up between the teams and then Drexel (February 26), before returning to Lehigh.

The Brown and White opens its home and Patriot League schedule on Saturday, March 1 against Holy Cross, looking to improve to 18-0 all-time against the Crusaders.  The game is scheduled for 1 p.m. in the Ulrich Sports Complex.

Lehigh then resumes non-conference play on March 4 with a match-up on the road against Cassese’s alma mater, Duke, which appeared in the national championship game versus Johns Hopkins last year.  On March 8, a game at home against Wagner follows, and on March 11, the Mountain Hawks face one of their biggest tests of the year, as they travel to Navy to battle the four-time defending Patriot League Champions.

Four straight home games are next on the schedule against Villanova (March 15), Patriot League foe Army (March 19), St. John’s (March 22), and Delaware (March 25).  Lehigh has not faced St. John’s since 1995.

A trio of league contests appears next, beginning March 29 with an away date to take on arch-rival Lafayette, as the Mountain Hawks look to extend to an eight-game winning streak over the Leopards.  A face-off at Colgate follows on April 5, and the final league game will be played on April 11 as the Bucknell Bison travel to South Mountain for a 7:30 game underneath the lights at the Ulrich Sports Complex.

The regular season will conclude on April 20 when Notre Dame travels to the Ulrich Sports Complex, marking the Fighting Irish’s first-ever trip to Bethlehem.  Game time that day is set for 1:00.
