Weiss honored as Scholar Athlete of the Year

A three-year starter who appeared in 55 total games at face-off specialist, Weiss won over 54 percent of his face offs for his career, including 51 percent as a senior, which ranked 23rd best in the country. The fifth member of Lehigh’s prestigious “44 Club”, Weiss also added two goals and scooped up 54 ground balls in 2006, as he helped lead the Brown and White to its second consecutive Patriot League Tournament berth and highest seed ever.

Also Tuesday, the Patriot League announced its 2006 men’s lacrosse Academic Honor Roll of which Weiss and eight of his teammates were a part of. Weiss’ 3.78 GPA for the spring semester led the way on a list that also included seniors Jeff Davis, Dane Kasschau, Mike Moran and Jeff Wiener, juniors Blake Best and Colin Mistele, and sophomores Tom Allen and Greg Furst. Weiss is the only four-time Patriot League men’s lacrosse academic honor roll member.
In all there were 58 student-athletes named to the honor roll, including a league high 15 selections from Bucknell. To be eligible for the honor roll, a student athlete must obtain at least a 3.2 GPA and be awarded a varsity letter in his or her sport.
