Strong fourth quarter pushes Lehigh past Lafayette

Lehigh out shot its rival 29-18 on the evening, scooped up 30 ground balls to the Leopards 22 and was eight of 15 on face offs. Lehigh was also 15 of 18 on clear attempts and one of four on clear attempts. Sophomore Eric Spirko got the start in goal for the Brown and White and sent back seven shots on the evening.
Best got Lehigh on the board first with just three ticks remaining on the first quarter clock, but the Leopards came back at the 14:18 mark of the second and tied the contest at one. Moran then put the Mountain Hawks ahead 2-1 with a goal of his own at the 5:26 mark of the second, and Lehigh took a 2-1 lead into intermission.
Trevor Ortolano would tie the contest at two with a score of his own at the 11:03 mark of the second, but Marino gave Lehigh a 3-2 lead with 4:10 remaining in the third, which is how the game would remain as the teams entered the decisive fourth quarter.
Andrew Horton tied the game at three with a goal off of an assist from Andrew Arkem at the 13:47 mark of the final quarter, but from there, it was all Lehigh. David Gaunt put the Brown and White in front for good with a score off of a feed from Michael Zurfluh at the 7:46 mark, and Marino then put the Mountain Hawks in front 5-3 with 5:18 to go. Best and Moran then scored two goals in a span of 1:16 to put the Brown and White ahead 7-3 with 2:53 to go, and Fred Cassilly added his first goal of the season with just 36 ticks to go, as Lehigh wrapped up the win.
