BETHLEHEM, Pa. – After going 2-0 last week, including the program’s first victory over Army since 1999, Lehigh was awarded for its on-field play with two weekly awards from the Patriot League.  Junior Stephen Marino was named the Offensive Player of the Week, while senior captain Jeff King received Defensive Player of the Week Honors, as announced by the league on Tuesday.

Marino scored four goals and dished out two assists in the Mountain Hawks pair of wins.  He also scooped up four ground balls and caused two turnovers.  The finance major scored two goals, including the game-winner, and handed out two assists in Lehigh’s 11-5 victory over St. Joe’s on February 28 in Philadelphia.  He then backed that performance up with another two goal, one assist performance in the Brown and White’s last second 8-7 win over the No. 14 Black Knights on March 4.  Marino assisted on Jeff Wiener’s game-winning score, which came with only seven ticks on the clock.  On the season, Marino leads Lehigh in goals (6), assists (8) and points (14) and has scooped up four ground balls.

King scooped up 11 ground balls and caused two turnovers in the Mountain Hawks pair of contests last week.  The two-time all-league performer held Army All-American John Walker to a single point in Lehigh’s win on Saturday, allowing Walker only one goal.  King is the anchor of the Mountain Hawks defense, which is allowing opponents to score just 5.75 goals per game.

In other news, Lehigh is receiving votes in both the Inside Lacrosse Media Poll and the STX/USILA Poll. Lehigh received 16 votes in the Inside Lacrosse Poll, which is only 16 votes shy of a top-20 ranking, and the Mountain Hawks garnered 12 votes in the STX/USILA poll, just two points out of the No. 20 spot.

Marino, King and the rest of the Mountain Hawks return to action on Saturday afternoon when they look to extend their winning streak to four games, and welcome Mount St. Mary’s to the Ulrich Sports Complex.  Game time is set for 1:00 and all of the action will be broadcast live on lehighsports.com with Steve Lomangino.
