Lehigh downs Marist for first win of the season

Lehigh got on the board first when Jeff Wiener scored off of a pass from Best at the 8:57 mark of the first quarter. Walsh netted his first goal of the afternoon at the 5:56 mark and the Brown and White was ahead 2-0. Senior Tom Weiss scored his first goal of the season off of an assist by Marino at the 9:45 mark of the second quarter and the Mountain Hawks were comfortably in front 3-0.
Marist scored its lone goal of the day at the 6:19 mark of the second when Andrew Walsh took a pass from Bill Duerr and found the back of the net to make the score 3-1. Marino scored his only goal of the day with just two seconds to go in the half, and the Mountain Hawks took a 4-1 lead into intermission.
Gaunt scored the second half’s first two goals, one at 13:47 and the other at 10:33 and Lehigh went ahead 6-1. Hoof opened the fourth quarter with a goal, his second of the season and with 11:20 to go, the Brown and White was in front 7-1. Walsh then scored his second goal of the day, and Hoof added his second in a span of 1:34 to close out the scoring for Lehigh, and send it to its first victory in 2006.
John Park made his second start in net for the Mountain Hawks and responded with six saves in 60 minutes of action. Lehigh was 21 of 25 on clear attempts and won 11 of 14 face offs on the afternoon. The Brown and White scooped up 22 ground balls and forced 25 Marist turnovers.
