Late rally falls short in loss at Army

WEST POINT, N.Y. – Lehigh had one of its best shooting days of the season on Saturday afternoon but it was not enough as the Mountain Hawks fell to Army 76-67 at Christl Arena. Three Mountain Hawks scored in double figures, but the Brown and White could not contain the hot-shooting Black Knights as they suffer their seventh straight loss and fall to 7-16 on the year, 2-8 in the Patriot League.

In the first half, Cara Enright single-handedly pushed the Black Knights to a halftime advantage.  Enright connected on all six three-point field goal attempts, en route to a 24-point first half effort.  No other Black Knight scored more than five, but Enright’s stellar play helped her team to a nine point lead at halftime, 41-32.

“We honestly were surprised by Enright’s early success from the three-point arc,” said head coach Sue Troyan. “Defensively, we have to do a better job making adjustments to prevent those things from happening.”

Lehigh junior Adrienne Blount led the Mountain Hawks with 13 first half points.  As a team, Lehigh connected on 52% of its shot attempts (13-of-25).

The Black Knights were able to extend their lead with an 8-0 run to open the second half. Army would lead by as many as 19 halfway through the second half before the Mountain Hawks began to fight their way back. A three-pointer and a lay-up from freshman Ryan Ingalls cut the deficit to ten, then with just under four minutes to play a jumper from junior Sara Ellis moved Lehigh within six at 66-60, but that would be as close as Lehigh would get, as the Black Knights would put the game away from the free-throw stripe.

Ellis led the Mountain Hawks with 24 points on the afternoon, while Blount chipped in with 21. Senior Jenny Callan was the third Lehigh player to reach double figures with 10, while Ingalls established a career high with seven points. The Mountain Hawks shot 47 percent from the field which equaled their season best.

Enright led the Black Knights with a game high 29 points, while Alex Maguire chipped in 13 for the Black Knights, who shot nearly 50 percent for the game and improve to 14-9 and 8-2 in league contests.

Lehigh returns home on Wednesday to host Colgate.  Game time is set for 5:05 pm from Stabler Arena in Bethlehem, and tickets can be purchased by calling (610) 7LU-GAME during normal business hours, or on-line anytime at Lehighsports.com.
