BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh senior captain Jenny Callan pulled down 19 rebounds and junior captain Sara Ellis recorded her sixth game of 20-plus points as the Mountain Hawks rolled to a 67-38 win over visiting Columbia inside Stabler Arena on Wednesday night.  In the process, Ellis moved into sole possession of second place on Lehigh’s all-time three-point field goals list, with 151.

“I thought tonight was an important game for us in terms of bouncing back [from two straight losses],” said Lehigh head coach Sue Troyan after the game.  “I thought we got a great effort from a number of people, and we gave a great effort inside.”

The victory snaps a brief two-game skid for LU, as the Mountain Hawks improve to 5-8 on the season.  The setback drops the Lions to 4-7 on the season.

In the first half, Lehigh used three quick lay-ups and two baskets, including a three-pointer, from Ellis to take an 11-0 lead just 3:08 into the contest.  The Mountain Hawks built the lead to as many as 15 points, before taking a 13-point advantage at the intermission.

Ellis led Lehigh with 13 first half points.   Adrienne Blount added ten, and Callan poured in eight points while grabbing ten rebounds.

As a team, Lehigh connected on 15-of-30 first half field goals, while connecting on four three-pointers.  Lehigh controlled the glass, pulling down 26 rebounds to just 13 for the Lions.  The Lehigh defense limited Columbia to just 28% shooting.

The strong play from the home team continued into the second half.  With 6:20 remaining, freshman Ryan Ingalls connected on a lay-up in the paint, stretching the Mountain Hawks’ lead to 33 – their largest cushion of the night.

In all, the Mountain Hawks scored 32 points in the paint, and Lehigh out-rebounded the Lions 53 to 30.  Lehigh shot 46%, while holding Columbia to just 23% shooting for the game.

Ellis scored 20 points to lead all scorers.  Callan added 13 points and 19 rebounds, and Blount poured in 12.  Sophomore point guard Claire Sullivan registered seven assists in only 20 minutes of action.

Katrina Cragg scored nine points to lead Columbia.
