Bethlehem, PA – Lehigh’s four-game winning streak came to an end on Tuesday afternoon as La Salle topped the Mountain Hawks by a 7-2 score at Goodman Field. The Explorers took advantage of two two-run home runs en route to the win. The victory improves La Salle’s record to 14-20 on the season, while the Mountain Hawks fall to 20-14-1 on the season with the setback.
La Salle’s Grant Harm got the Explorers on the board with a two-run home run in the top of the third. An inning later, third baseman John Rickards added a two run blast of his own to make the score 4-0 in favor of the visitors.
In all, La Salle got to Lehigh starter Joel Hockman for four runs in three and a third innings, dropping his record to 1-4 on the season.
Lehigh’s defense struggled on the afternoon, making an uncharacteristic four errors.
Offensively for the Mountain Hawks, third baseman Jeff Benfield continued with the hot bat. He was 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI, raising his season batting average to .538.
Lehigh returns to action on Wednesday, as the Mountain Hawks host Penn. First pitch is set for 3:00 from Goodman Field.
