The match started at 149 pounds as that suited the Mountain Hawks just fine as Matt Anderson opened things with a 3-0 decision over Kyle Bernholz. Lehigh followed that up with a pair of tech. falls by Derek Zinck and Troy Letters. Travis Frick and Dave Helfrich followed up by each taking decisions and Lehigh was up 19-0 at the halfway point.
On senior day, Jon Trenge took the mat for the last time in front of a home crowd and did not disappoint. Trenge suffered a minor injury early on, but scored three takedowns and took an 8-5 decision over Marcus Schontube for career win number 125. Paul Weibel followed that up with an impressive 16-1 tech. fall over Matt Smith, who subbed for the Quakers No. 6 ranked Matt Feast.
Penn would score its only points at 125 where Mason Lenhard won by forfeit as Andrew Rizzi missed weight. From there Lehigh took the final two bouts in impressive fashion as Matt Ciasulli scored a first period pin on Jeff Eveleth and Cory Cooperman avenged a loss in last year’s EIWA finals with a 14-5 major decision over Doug McGraw.
Before the match, Lehigh honored its four graduating seniors. Jon Trenge, Andrew Rizzi, Dave Brundage and manager Christelle Berger were honored for their dedication to the Lehigh wrestling program.
