BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Lehigh head coach
Chris Wakely has announced that Jim Shreve is the new full-time assistant coach with the men’s lacrosse program.
Shreve is entering his tenth season as the assistant coach for Lehigh, but this will be his first in the newly created full-time position.
Wakely expressed his thoughts on his new full-time assistant.
“I’m excited to have Jim join our staff as he is someone with a strong knowledge of the type of student-athletes that we need to attract to Lehigh and our program.
Jim also has tremendous familiarity with our offensive and defensive systems we have in place.”
Wakely continues, “Over the past nine years, his (Jim’s) position was part-time, but the commitment he showed was that of a full-time coach. Jim’s on field responsibility will primarily be with the offense and our goalies. While, off of the field, he will serve as our primary recruiting coordinator and assist in the development of summer camps.”
Shreve becomes the first full-time assistant men’s lacrosse coach in Lehigh University history. This appointment was made possible in part thanks to the generosity of Lehigh Penske Hall of Fame member Murray H. Goodman ’48. In October 2004, Goodman pledged a $5 million gift to the Athletics Department as part of the university-wide "Shine Forever: The Campaign for Lehigh” fundraising effort.
Shreve has been the men’s assistant for eight seasons and also served as the head coach of the women’s program for one year in 2004. Shreve attended Syracuse University where he played midfield for legendary coach Roy Simmons, Jr. He served as an assistant coach at Cortland State in 1974 and also in 1975 on Cortland’s National Championship team. Shreve then taught and was the head lacrosse coach at Binghamton High School for 11 years. Jim was one of four coaches selected to coach the Under-19 USA World Lacrosse team in 1996, which won the World Championship in Tokyo, Japan.
