Rider got on the board first when Stephanie Walker took a feed from Courtney Bertos and dribbled through the defense for the goal at the 17:07 mark. Meaghan Schweers then added to the Rider lead when she scored off of a penalty corner at the 22:00 mark. Ally Hunter assisted on the score.
The Mountain Hawks would chop the lead the in half though, when Kuenne scored an unassisted goal, her seventh of the season, and Lehigh was within one at the 40:25 mark, which is how the team’s would retire for halftime.
Rider opened the second half with a quick score, as Tricia Crotty took a feed from Schweers and scored to give the visitors a 3-1 lead at the 48:43 mark.
Lehigh continued to apply pressure and it paid off when Harrington netted her fourth score of the season with just 1:28 left, bringing the Mountain Hawks to within one at 4-3. Rider was able to keep Lehigh out of the cage for the final moments, and hung on for the road victory. Head coach Julie Mazer liked the way her team came back on Wednesday evening after being down early. “I was impressed with how we fought back here tonight. We showed a lot of heart and character to come back after being down like that. I thought we did some really good things when we had possession of the ball; we controlled it well, and put them on their heels at times. In other instances, we didn’t look as sharp, and that probably cost us.”
For the game, Lehigh was out shot 12-7 and had three penalty corners to the Broncs five. Stephanie Palmieri got her second straight start in goal for Lehigh, and stopped four shots, while Kelly Harris also got some time in the cage, but did not register any saves. Bearish stopped three Mountain Hawk shots in her 70 minutes of action.
Lehigh returns to action on Saturday afternoon on Senior Day, when the Mountain Hawks host Colgate in a game that has serious implications on the upcoming Patriot League Tournament. Game time is scheduled for 1:00 and all of the action will be broadcast live on lehighsports.com with streaming audio and video provided by Yahoo! Sports.
